Italian Glass Sale - March 29-30
Published March 23rd, 2008
The auction consists of more than 200 select lots. Highlighting the sale are two very rare examples seldom seen at auction: a pair of candlesticks in the Primavera technique by the Artistica Barovier Company. They are estimated at $5,000 – $10,000. Fueling the excitement, an Artisti Barovier and Umberto Bellotto murrina platter on an ornate wrought iron stand will be offered, possibly for the first time. It is estimated between $70,000 and $90,000.
Other selections include a circa 1880 Italian mosaic glass portrait from the Venice and Murano Glass and Mosaic Company (Salviati and Co.). This PreRaphaelite image is estimated between $10,000 and $15,000, and a Fratelli Toso Stellato glass vase by Pollio Perelda, circa 1953, is estimated at $10,000-$12,500. A rare Venini Murrina glass vase, circa 1954, and a unique Anzolo Fuga Murano studio glass vase designed by Anzolo and Guiseppe Fuga, circa 1953, are each estimated in the $15,000 to $25,000 range.
