The PBS program brings together experts and people seeking appraisals of cherished personal possessions, everything from art to jewelry to furniture. Once in a while, a real hidden treasure is discovered.
On Oct. 17, the Met will offer local folks an opportunity to have their items appraised by specialists from the international auction company Bonhams & Butterfields.
The event will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Met’s Reeves ASK Science Center, 933 Van Ness Ave., near Tulare Avenue.
“If you’ve got that old painting that was hanging in Grandma’s living room all those years and wondered if it was worth something, this is the event to come to,” says John English, the Met’s manager of marketing and communications.
The cost will be $25, for up to five appraisal items. All proceeds will benefit the downtown museum.
Those interested in meeting with the auction house experts should keep in mind that the specialists will be giving verbal appraisals in specific areas: fine paintings and sculptures; jewelry; Asian art; and furniture and decorative arts.
