Civil War Artifacts go to Auction in Georgia - Sept 22

The largest Civil War artifacts auction ever held in Georgia will take place this Saturday, September 22, at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center located in Dalton, Georgia.

A wide assortment of artifacts will be up for auction on Saturday, with a free public viewing to be held on Friday from 10am to 7pm.

A portrait that may be the earliest known one of George Armstrong Custer in his West Point uniform is one of the many sought after artifacts that will go to the highest bidder on Saturday.

A U.S. Army oak medicine chest with original label and bottles that was supplied by Edward R. Squibb, a Navy doctor, who later founded the Squibb Company, will also be up for auction.

Long guns, pistols, swords, uniforms, hats, signed documents and letters. Indian artifacts, including arrow heads, stone tools, pots and beaded items, will be among the 710 lots that are auctioned off on Saturday.

The auction will start at 10am Saturday morning. Live bids will be taken from the floor of the Trade Center, bids will also be taken via internet on eBay, bids can be phoned in and bids can be made by fax
