Sharp decline in US house sales

Sales of non-new US homes fell 8.4% in March, the sharpest month-on-month drop for 18 years and a further illustration of weakness in the US housing market.

Masonic temple raises $30,000 from auction

An auction on Saturday of the furniture and artifacts of the Springfield Masonic Temple raised more than $30,000, according to its president.
The day was deemed a success after drawing numerous buyers, browsers and bargain-hunters, according to Masonic Temple President Robert E. Karowski and the auctioneer, Peter Stanton Imler the owner of Stanton Auctions of Hampden.

U2 guitar sale helps raise $2.4m for Katrina charity

The favourite guitar of U2’s The Edge has been sold at an auction that raised about $2.4m (£1.2m) for a charity set up in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
The Gibson Les Paul used on every U2 tour since 1985 sold for $240,000 (£120,000), while one owned by Jimi Hendrix fetched $400,000 (£200,000).
